I'm miles from France

I found a whole stack of old family photographs. Who are they, where did they come from, where did I come from? This blog tells the story of my family and hopes to answer the age old question: Where did I come from?

I think this is penned by William Edward Wakeford. It could be a song - he was a gifted musician apparently.
When the Great Red Dawn is Shining1) Though I am far beyond the ocean blueEach lonely hour my heart remembers youEach tender love, each word I used to knowComes back to me, from out the long ago.2) When the Great Red Dawn is shiningWhen the waiting hours are pastWhen the tears of my night are ended& I see the day at lastI shall come down to the road of sunshineto a heart that that is fond (?) and trueWhen the Great Red Dawn is shiningBack to home, back to love & you2)Dark is the world but still I wait and prayEach lovely hour to see the rising dayThat day of love that dawns on grief and painThat day of love that brings me home againWhen the Great Red Dawn is shining

When the Great Red Dawn is Shining
1) Though I am far beyond the ocean blue
Each lonely hour my heart remembers you
Each tender love, each word I used to know
Comes back to me, from out the long ago.
2) When the Great Red Dawn is shining
When the waiting hours are past
When the tears of my night are ended
& I see the day at last
I shall come down to the road of sunshine
to a heart that that is fond (?) and true
When the Great Red Dawn is shining
Back to home, back to love & you
2)
Dark is the world but still I wait and pray
Each lovely hour to see the rising day
That day of love that dawns on grief and pain
That day of love that brings me home again
When the Great Red Dawn is shining
